Neptune fund boss talks up US 'powerhouse'

THE US remains a "powerhouse of innovation" populated by good companies on relatively cheap valuations, which could make it the surprise market of this year and into 2008, according to Felix Wintle, manager of Neptune US Opportunities.

Wintle said the market is not expensive on valuations of around 16.5x earnings and, despite the weak dollar, he believes that the US economy is more robust than commentators imagine, with low unemployment and inflation in check. While emerging markets have become a more attractive investment proposition for some, Wintle added that the rise of these markets benefits the US, with many companies listed on the S&P 500 having a key role in the fast growing BRIC economies.
