Gartmore lauds European 'opportunities'

CONTINENTAL Europe still offers a number of good investment opportunities, according to Roger Guy and Guillaume Rambourg, managers of the Gartmore European Selected Opportunities and the Gartmore SICAV Continental European funds.

Although the European economic outlook is tipped to weaken over the coming months, valuations on the whole remain supportive and fundamentals are attractive. "Although there are signs that growth is slowing, the slowdown is largely expected to be gradual and much less dramatic than the economies of many other regions, such as the US," argued Guy and Rambourg. The duo sees export demand easing in 2008 and the focus shifting to consumer and household spending. Their analysis is supported by the fact that unemployment is still falling in Germany and providing support to domestic demand. ...
