Annuity rates up in 2007

ANNUITY rates have improved so much in recent months that today's retiree would get a significantly better deal than one that retired in January.

Research from The Annuity Bureau found men aged 60 retiring today on a level annuity would get a 3% higher annuity than those who retired in January 2007. Norwich Union is currently dominating the level single life rates taking over from Legal & General which topped the charts at the start of the year. Married couples are doing even better, with a 5% improvement in joint life rates since January (for a couple aged 60 seeking RPI escalation), compared to people who retired in January 2007 (£3539 Legal & General).
