New Star appoints alternative investment head

New Star has poached Merrill Lynch's Donald Pepper as its new head of alternative investment.

Pepper has been at Merrill Lynch since 2003 as its head of prime brokerage sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to this, he spent 16 years at Goldman Sachs in prime brokerage sales. Pepper will take up his new role at New Star in September, and will head up a dedicated hedge fund team of 10, oversee the company's range of seven single and multi-manager hedge funds and seek to develop new business.
