Barclays: more than a third of investors do not know what an ETF is

A survey by Barclays Stockbrokers has shown that 35pc of investors still do not know what ETFs are, whilst a further 5pc wrongly assume they are a type of cash deposit or commodity.

The online poll revealed that 16pc of respondents laud ETFs for their diversified exposure and 15pc cite them as being cost-effective instruments, yet 34pc do not believe ETFs are suitable for them.
