EQUITY market turmoil is causing almost a third (31pc) of middle-aged and older adults to lose sleep or feel more stressed as a result of their financial position, according to a YouGov survey sponsored by The Hartford.
The survey revealed that those aged over 45 were already feeling the psychological effects of market turmoil. Almost half (47pc) of those aged 55 and over said they were 'very' or 'fairly' concerned as to the impact of market turmoil on their pensions, compared to 38pc among the 45-54 age group and 32pc of those aged 35-44. Significantly, more than one in five (21pc) of respondents said that they would be 'very' or 'fairly' willing to pay an annual fee, in order to guarantee that their pension savings would not fall, even if the market did.
