FTSE Yell for help

The FTSE 100 Index closed down 27.10 points, or 0.48%, to 5633.80 today led by Yell, as Britain's Competition Commission said the firm was in a strong market position, arousing fears its growth may be curbed.

Yell fell 20p, or 3.79%, to 507.25p on a Competition Commission investigation into the supply of Classified Directory Advertising Services. Vodafone fell 3.25p, or 2.69%, to 117.75p after investors who had hoped the firm was about to sell its 45% stake in Verizon Wireless were disappointed when Vodafone said it had no current plans to cash in. Chemical firm BOC tried its best to haul the index back into gains. It posted a 21.11% rise to 1,394p, despite rejecting a bid from European rival Linde, as analysts speculated the German firm is likely to come back with an improved offer. In t...
