The Government may need to partly nationalise the entire UK banking system to bring any sort of stability to the current economic crisis, RLAM's Bradley Mitchell says.
Mitchell, the £84.9m RLAM UK Growth trust manager, says the Treasury could have no option but to take a stake in most, if not all, of the UK’s banks to ensure no major institutions face a Northern Rock or Bradford & Bingley style run. “The banks need to find more capital somehow and this will mean more rights issues across the banking sector,” Mitchell says. “One solution would be for the Government to take a stake in the banks, via rights issues, alongside other institutional investors. “Given the extreme uncertainty in the sector, I am not buying any banks at the moment and things ...
