British Energy drags FTSE lower

The FTSE 100 is down 17.8 points, or 0.3%, to 5,872.4 in early trading, with British Energy leading the decline.

Currently the biggest drag on the index, British Energy has fallen 6.61% to 593p on fears about repairs to two of its nuclear generators, while Drax Group is also down 2.37% to 866.5p. On the bright side, miners are performing well with Vedanta Resources up 0.72% to £12.67, closely followed by Anglo American which has gained 0.69% to £21.90, while drug company AstraZeneca has climbed 0.39% to £33.37. But BP has posted the biggest gains so far with a rise of 1.38% to 587p, as oil prices hit $64 a barrel, while BG Group has avoided falling in sympathy with British Energy and is currently ...
