Property stocks push FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 has ended the day up 12.5 points, or 0.2%, to 6,204.5, as the mining and property sectors performed well.

Miner Antofagasta was the biggest gainer with a rise of 4.1% to 476.5p, closely followed by property group Hammerson which gained 2.7% to £14.84, while British Land climbed 2.69% to £16.04. Rio Tinto also performed well climbing 2.36% to £27.32, closely followed by insurer Legal & General which gained 2.33% to 153.5p, although gains were limited by Amvescap which slipped 0.84% to 593p. Unilever was the biggest drag on the index with a drop of 1.5% to £13.80, closely followed by ITV which slipped 1.08% to 114.5p, while Smiths Group fell 0.98% to 912.5p, and Bradford & Bingley declined ...
