The FTSE 100 has ended the day up 41 points, or 0.7%, to 5,929.3 led by strong performances from miners and life insurers.
Rising metal prices sent miners higher through the afternoon, with Vedanta resources ending 2.56% higher at 1,360p, while Anglo American added 2.28% to 2,332p and Kazakhmys gained 2.05% to end the day at 1,243p. Meanwhile life insurers were buoyed by talk of a bid for Prudential from rival Aviva, causing Legal & General and Old Mutual to rise in sympathy. Prudential added 2.59% to 593.5p, Aviva gained 0.74% to 744.5p, while L&G increased by 1.71% to 133.5p and Old Mutual jumped 2.5% to 164p. But it was plumbing supplies firm Wolseley which topped the risers with gains of 4.22% to 1,135p...
