Old Mutual appears to be ready to assume control of Skandia following the announcement today that the Swedish insurer's nominating committee is to recommend James Sutcliffe, Old Mutual's current chief executive, as chairman of Skandia's board of directors.
Sutcliffe is one of four Old Mutual directors to join the Skandia board as part of the takeover. The rest are Julian Roberts, group finance director at Old Mutual, Norman Broadhurst, who holds a non-executive directorship at the South African insurance firm and Michael Newman, who is chairman of strategic interests, as well as holding several directorships at Old Mutual. There are two further additions to the board. Björn Björnsson and Lars Otterbeck have been appointed as independent directors.
