FTSE maintains strong start to climb over 1%

The FTSE closed this afternoon at 6640.2p after climbing 73.1 points, or 1.11%.

Antofagasta rose 37 points, or 5.37%, to 725.5p. BAE Systems rose 19.25 points, or 4.79%, to 421.25p. Old Mutual maintained early form, and increased by 7.7 points, or 4.58%, to 175.9p. Persimmon climbed 51 points, or 4.54%, to 1175p. Vedanta Resources rose 73 points, or 4.22%, to 1804p. However, Mitchells & But dropped 29 points, or 3.25%, to 863p. British Energy Group slid 6.5 points, or 1.23%, to 523p. Cadbury Schweppes also fell 6.5 points, or 1.01%, to 638p. Standard Chartered fell 13 points, or 0.77%, to 1671p.
