The chief minister of the Isle of Man has questioned Alistair Darling's knowledge of his own Government following the Chancellor's "unfortunate" remarks concerning the crown dependancy's status as a tax haven.
Tony Brown says Darling “did not seem to be aware” the relationship between the UK and Isle of Man had already been reviewed after the former Trade and Industry secretary said he would have to take a “long hard look” at the “tax haven sitting in the Irish Sea”. Brown adds the Isle of Man is “not asking the UK for any favours”, but points out it does have a constitutional responsibility to the crown dependency internationally.
