UK trading sent the benchmark FTSE 100 index down about 7 points this morning to 4691, held back by supermarket woes.
Shares in Sainsbury, is down 1p to 251p recovering from an opening loss of 3.6% after the company made its earnings announcement. This followed an FSA decision to review investment bank Merrill Lynch’s decision last week to cut estimates for the supermarket twice. Reuters is down 7.25p to 338.75p. WPP is off by 6.5p to 538p. Gallaher Group has climbed 10.5p to 663.5p, as investors seek respite in tobacco. Cairn Energy is up 15p to 1,535p as the Scottish oil and gas company continues to put out the right noises about additional finds in India and elsewhere. Friends Povident has ...
