FTSE caps good week despite distractions

In the UK, the FTSE 100 Index has climbed 20.20 points higher to 5241.80 to cap off a good week and in spite of ‘bomb' threats rocking the capital yesterday.

Building material firm BPB leads the gains, climbing a further 45p or 7% to 693.5p, after announcing it rejected a proposed £3.37bn takeover offer from French based Cie. de Saint-Gobain. The food services firm Compass closed 11.5p or 4.7% higher to 252.5p, on speculation from the Times, a bidding company arranged by Allied Domecq chairman Gerry Robinson, could make an offer for Compass. Mobile Group 02 has also climbed 5.75p or 4% to 144.5p, along with Man group advancing 62p to 1581p.
