Widows bank hits record figures - papers 23rd August

SCOTTISH Widows Bank, the telephone mortgage and savings bank with no branches, has announced record figures for the first half of the year, reports the Scotsman .

The paper says the Edinburgh-based operation, part of the Lloyds TSB group, posted a 26 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to £13.5m. Mortgage lending surged 12% to £5.1bn, while, in savings, customer deposits rose by 9% to £2.7bn. Managing director Graeme Hartop said he was "very pleased" with the results, which were ahead of expectations. "We're continuing to demonstrate the growth and success we have achieved over the last few years," he said.
