Social care failures present advice opportunities

A report into the state of social care in England has criticised the provider marketplace as being underdeveloped, suggesting opportunities exist for further advice in the area of long-term care.

The report by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) – The State of Social Care in England 2005-06 – says progress in achieving the government’s policy ambitions is being hampered by financial and other pressures in the social care and health systems. In particular, it states the marketplace for social care providers is underdeveloped, there are continuing recruitment and retention problems for high quality qualified staff and there is organisational turbulence in the NHS and councils’ structures for services.
