FTSE rises on oil

The FTSE 100 Index rose 0.71% to 5,732 today, after crude oil advanced for the sixth time in seven sessions and the US signalled it may soon stop raising interest rates.

BP gained 1.34% to 643p and Shell was up 0.94% to 1,931p after crude oil for February delivery rose 59 cents to $63.38 a barrel in New York, bolstered by rising gasoline demand in the U.S. BAE Systems was also up 3.81% to 408.50p after it was upgraded to 500p from 400p by broker UBS following the recent Saudi Arabia contracts, and African Copper gained 18.28% to 55p, after the mineral explorer reported additional high grade intersections at the Dukwe copper project in Botswana.
