After initial gains on Wall Street, shares began to fall as investors continue to worry about government debt. The Dow Jones fell 32.33 points (0.39%) to 8,259.8.
Financials were down in early trade, with American Express losing 1.9% to $23.69, closely followed by Bank of America, which saw shares lose 1.7% to $11.21. Alcoa shares also fell despite an upturn in natural resources firms on the London Stock Exchange, down 1.99% to $8.92. Chevron shares added 0.59% to $64.85 on the back of rising oil prices, while rival Exxon Mobil added 0.51% to $68.74. In London, markets struggled to remain positive as the FTSE 100 started to fall back in late afternoon, up just 1.24 points (0.03%) to 4,346.71.
