Gordon Brown has backed recommendations for MPs to surrender their ‘gold-plated' pensions.
A review by the Senior Salaries Review Body recommends cabinet ministers surrender their right to claim a pension of half their salaries on leaving their office in favour of taking it at the state standard age 65. Brown also hopes the Government will vote for a 1.9% pay rise in two stages, eventually bringing it to the report’s recommended 2.56%. The news follows Conservative Party leader David Cameron’s call earlier this week for the Government to abolish “very generous” public sector final salary pensions.
