Amvescap keeps FTSE at three-year high

Steady progress saw the FTSE 100 Index reach a three-year high, as the UK benchmark finished 10.2 points higher to 5242.4, led by Amvescap.

The investment manager lifted 13.25p to 432.75p, following the news on Wednesday last week that a Canadian money manager, CI Financial was interested in making an offer for the the company. Prudential, also climbed 15p to 528.75p, on the back of further reports of Citigroup making a possible £1bn bid for internet bank Egg, of which Prudential is a major shareholder. Online Yellow Pages spin off, Yell Group has also progressed 9.5p to 453p today. On the losing end, Shell Transport & Trading Group has retreated 15.25p to 548.75p, as the price of crude decreased in New York. Imperial T...
