Banks lead FTSE charge

The banking sector is powering a solid start for the FTSE 100 this morning, adding 21.22 points or 0.52% to 4117.62 by 9:30am.

A number of banks are higher in early trading, with RBS adding 3.98% to 34p and Lloyds up 3.66% to 99.10p. British Airways is another early winner despite swine flu fears causing flight cancellations, 4.12% higher to 149p. Miners have also seen an increase in share price and have regained recent falls with Kazakhmys adding 3.63% to 500p and Xstrata adding 3.55% to 583.50p. In the US, the Dow Jones closed just behind, dropping 8.05 points (0.1%) to 8016.95. Tokyo's Nikkei also closed down, shedding 232.57 points (2.67%) at 8493.77. IFAonline
