Women must boost retirement savings - Scot Wids

The pensions gender gap continues to narrow in 2008, but many women are still not saving enough for their retirement, according to Scottish Widows.

In addition, more than six million women will rely on their partner's pension to provide them with a comfortable retirement. Scottish Widows' research found the pensions gap between men and women fell to 9% in 2008, down from 13% in 2007. However, only 46% of women who could save for a pension were saving adequately, Scottish Widows says, compared to 55% of men. Dependent children were the main reason for women not contributing as much as they should, with 27% of mothers having to reduce their savings after having children.
