Firms selling critical illness (CI) cover are making efforts to meet the required standards but they need to do more to show they are treating customers fairly, says the Financial Services Authority (FSA).
The FSA has recently undertaken supervision visits to 42 firms and a mystery shopping exercise across 51 firms as part of a thematic review of the advice and information being given to retail customers when they buy CI. Many of the findings from the supervision visits are positive, with the FSA noting: Most intermediaries undertook a detailed assessment of the protection needs of the customer before making a recommendation to buy CI.
