FTSE virtually unchanged as ITV rejects NTL bid

The FTSE 100 fell 1 point to 6202 today as stocks slipped into the red in afternoon trades as ITV and Icap topped the fallers on bid uncertainties.

ITV fell 2.18% to 112.00p after it rejected NTL's £4.7bn approach with the US cable operator saying it was considering its options. Inter-dealer broker Icap lost 1.75% to 478.00p after it said it was not interested in bidding for the London Stock Exchange, which recently rejected a proposal from Nasdaq. Among the risers, Scottish & Southern Energy lead the pack up 3.60% to 1,498p, while Lonmin also posted good gains on possible bid hopes up 3.36% to 3,080p. In the US the Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 17.30 points, or 0.1%t, at 12,299.24 led by Intel and General Motors. Intel, t...
