The UK may not currently have the compensation culture previously predicted, however warnings for future claims suggest personal injury compensation costs may rise.
Figures presented by Datamonitor indicate the number of people submitting personal injury claims between 2001 and 2003 actually fell over that period. However, there is now a rapid increase in disease claims along with an increase in the cost of claims this year which is predicted to escalate 40% in the next four years. Up to 2004, the total number of personal injury claims had been falling year-on-year, from 743,593 claims in 2000/1 to 706,715 in 2002/03.
