Global markets recover from slump

Global markets recovered from last week's slump as world banks injected extra cash into the banking systems.

The FTSE closed this afternoon at 6219 after rising 180.7p, or 2.99%. Antofagasta rose 65 points, or 10.48%, to 685p. Kazakhmys rose 113 points, or 10.44%, to 1195p. Anglo American rose 216 points, or 8.31%, to 2816p. Home Retail rose 28.5 points, or 7.56%, to 405.25p. Daily Mail and General Trust rose 46.5 points, or 7.25%, to 687.5p. Kingfisher fell 3.5 points, or 1.63%, to 211.5p. Standard Life fell 3.75 points, or 1.19%, to 311.5p. Johnson Matthey fell 14 points, or 0.82%, to 1690p.
