FTSE gains steadily on positive forecasts

The UK's FTSE 100 index is trading 6.8 points higher this morning to 4735points, led by GlaxoSmithKline.

The drug maker has picked up 14p to 1180p after analysts raised its stock rating on the prospect it will increase its earnings as it begins to market new products. Cadbury Schweppes has added 4.75p to 470p, after the company reported a positive forecast for sales in the new year. Reuters is also up 4.25p to 369.75p. On the other side of the board, Cairn Energy leads the drop, shedding 20p to 1411p. British Sky Broadcasting Group has also lost ground losing 6.50p to 556.50p.
