The UK economy is likely to begin a gradual recovery later this year, according to Legal & General Investment Management.
In the company's latest monthly Fundamentals briefing, analysts noted recent economic data show tentative signs of stabalising. It adds the rise in equity markets over March - up 2.8% after declining 7.2% in February - has occurred due to falling mortgage rates, lower energy prices, a weak pound and improvements in household balance sheets, which are all supporting the UK economy. These positive factors are counterbalanced by the negative effect of slowing economic growth, rising unemployment and a reduction in consumer spending.
