NRock guarantees aid FTSE

In London, markets recovered as confidence in Northern Rock eased due to Government guarantees and the FTSE 100 was up 6,283.3.

Alliance & Leicester recovered 193 points, or 32.17%, to 793p, followed by Northern Rock, which added 23.25 points, or 8.22%, to 306p. Invesco gained 29.5 points, or 5.16%, to 601.5p, Liberty International was up 53 points, or 5.06%, to £11.00, and Barclays jumped 26 points, or 4.48%, to 607p. Lonmin dropped 143 points, or 4.35%, to £31.46, Lloyds TSB fell 9 points, or 1.75%, to 504p, while Marks and Spencer was down 4 points, or 0.7%, to 570.5p. On Wall Street, markets were ahead in early trading, with the Dow Jones up 106.49, or 0.79%, to 13,509.91. American Express shares added 1....
