A new £13m fund has been launched by Pensions Minister Malcolm Wicks, to finance local initiatives which should fast-track the take-up of benefits for Britain's older population.
The Pension Service Partnership Fund will specifically target people, says Wicks, who may not be taking full advantage of all the monetary benefits available to pensioners. “The new fund will allow a mighty coalition of organisations - large and small, voluntary and statutory - to deliver extra help to hard-pressed pensioners,” says Wicks. A host of health visitors, local authority staff and volunteers in communities are required to make an application for some of the funds and are then dispatched to ensure benefits are reached by people who are most in need, according to Wicks.
