Strong start for FTSE

The Dow Jones' positive run overnight rubbed off on UK stocks this morning, driving the FTSE100 29.80 points (0.54%) higher to 5527.20.

British Land Company currently tops the table, adding 23p (3.19%) to 745. The London Stock Exchange gained 24p (3.01%) to 821 and Imperial Tobacco Group is up 2.68% to 1876. Fresh from a deal with American Airlines, British Airways shares have risen 7p (2.76%) to 260.75. Sainsbury is also up, gaining 2.28% to 348.25. However, the resource and mining sector has had a shaky start with Kazakhmys down 46p (3.65%) to 1216. Vedanta Resources has lost 56p (3.1%) to 1750, while Xstrata has declined by 88p (2.89%) to 2962. Antofagata and BHP Billiton are also lagging, losing 2.66% and 2.02% ...
