GSK legal settlement lifts FTSE

The FTSE 100 index is up again this morning on the back of gains for GlaxoSmithKline, who have now settled their anti-competitive law suit with the New York Attorney General's office.

The FTSE 100 index was up 23.2 points or 0.5% to 4477and the FTSE All-Share index added 0.5% to 2221.76 as the markets make headway in light of the gradually falling oil price. Glaxo has finally settled a lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer after they accused the drugmaker withholding safety data on the antidepressant Paxil. Shares rose 13p or 1.2% to £11.44 pence. Antofagasta, the mining company, added 3.5p or 0.4% to 998.5p thanks to a ratings upgrade from Merrill Lynch.
