Poor BT results weigh on FTSE

After a rollercoaster ride, London shares settled slightly below their opening levels, down 8.8 points (0.16%) to 5,411.9.

Eurasian shares added 67.5p (6.84%) to £10.55, while Reed Elseview gained 32.5p (5.97%) to 576.5p. BT Group shares took a beating after poor first quarter earnings, down 23.7 (11.99%) to 173.9p, while Unilever lost 111p (7.35%) to £13.99. Wall Street share prices fell rapidly in early trading before making a slight recovery, with the Dow Jones down 39 points (0.34%) to 11,544.69. AT&T shares climbed 0.69 (2.23%) to $31.60, while Citigroup added 0.28 points (1.51%) to $18.77. Walt Disney share values dropped 1.1 (3.47%) to $30.57, while Exxon Mobil lost 2.39 (2.83%) to $82.
