Corus bidding war pushes FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 index is up 28.4 points, or 0.46%, to 6,180.8 in early trading this morning, with Corus leading the way after both bidders for the steel company upped their share offer price.

Steelmaker Corus is up 4.8% to 524p as Brazil's CSN waded in with a 515p per share bid just hours after Tata of India, the original bidder for the company upped its offer to 500p. Meanwhile, Shire is also up 2.96% to £10.62, closely followed by Rolls-Royce Group which has climbed 2.87% to 439.25p, while Lloyds TSB Group has added 2.25% to 568p, with International Power also gaining 2.21% to 382p. On the downside, Cairn Energy is the biggest drag on the index with a fall of 1.09% to £20.85, closely followed by Gallaher Group which is down 0.9% to £11.62, while Persimmon has slipped 0.7...
