New Shell merger sinks FTSE

In the UK, the FTSE 100 Index has lost a further 6.10 points to 5208.10, representing a third consecutive loss, led by Shell Transport & Trading.

The oil exploration firm has shed as much as 27p or 5% to 510p, after UK courts today accepted the merger of Royal Dutch Petroleum and Shell Transport & Trading to form Royal Dutch Shell, which will begin trading tomorrow. Pharmaceuticals and healthcare firm, Alliance Unichem has also slipped 22.5p to 827.5p, while Daily Mail and General Trust has also lost 14.5p to 654p. At the other end of the board, SABMiller has climbed a massive 10% or 94p to 980p, after it confirmed it will buy Columbian brewer Bavaria, in a deal worth $7.8bn to ensure it sits behind InBev as South America's secon...
