The FTSE 100 is slightly down by 5.8 points, or 0.09%, to 6,166.6, despite a rally from Corus following merger speculation.
Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus is up 3.28% to 495.25p following reports talks with Indian steelmaker Tata Steel have been successful with talk of a possible formal offer of around $9bn. British Energy is also off to a good start with a rise of 3.4% to 441.5p, closely followed by International Power which is up 2.88% to 348.25p, while miner Kazakhmys has climbed 2.49% to £12.33 and BP has added 1.42% to 608.5p.
