Conservatives continue Pension stranglehold for now

The Conservatives have again reached for the knife regarding Labour's pension plans, warning its suggested move from the traditional state pension to a so-called "citizen's pension" could potentially lead to further means-testing.

Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, David Willetts says the result would mean further people not receiving a full state pension on retirement, even though contributing to National Insurance their entire working lives. Additionally, the Tories have also again accused Labour for being secretive regarding their pensions plans. Willetts says: “We are beginning to discover what their secret plans are - the ones they are trying to keep from us. It's perfectly clear that if they move to the adoption of a citizen's pension, the only way to finance it would be to means-test it.” He argues Labo...
