HMRC has lost a disc containing personal information on Standard Life customers who are contracted out of the state second pension.
The disc disappeared at the end of September before HMRC's external courier delivered a batch of 20 discs to Standard Life. Standard Life attributes the missing disc to “human error” and says it immediately increased security to protect affected customers. Standard Life and HMRC have contacted customers to tell them what had happened and suggest what additional security measures they should take to protect themselves.
