FTSE ends with a happy Corus

The FTSE 100 Index added 17.30 points, or 0.3%, to 5,851 points today, led by Corus.

Corus gained 3.45% to 419.75p after Citigroup lifted its estimates for European steel prices. Shire Pharmaceuticals rose 2.96% to 852.50p after its Hunter syndrome drug Elaprase won approval from US regulators. Anglo American gained 0.85% to 2,138p, Rio Tinto advanced 1.87% to 2,725p, Antofagasta rose 1.60% to 397p and Xstrata advanced 3.42% to 2,042p as metal prices improved. Misys gained 2.85% to 243.50p after it decided to let prospective bidders look at its books.
