Aifa 'fiercely opposed' to T&C removal for retail firms

The Association of Independent Financial Advisers (Aifa) is "fiercely opposed" to the Financial Services Authority's (FSA) suggestion it might remove detailed training and competence rules for retail firms.

The comment follows the FSA’s announcement it will remove the specific training and competence requirements to take an examination for the wholesale market and will conduct a further review this year to consider doing the same for the retail market. Fay Goddard, deputy director general of Aifa, says: “We are fiercely opposed to any reduction in mandatory qualifications for retail firms.” Aifa is also disappointed at the removal of requirements for wholesale firms because the move was based on the premise there would be no detriment to consumers, says Goddard.
