Metal and oil take FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 index has gained 47.5 points or 0.8% to 5725.3 points this morning, led by BP and Anglo American as metal and oil prices rise.

BP has risen 5.5p, or 0.9% to 639.5p, while Royal Dutch Shell has climbed 13p, or 0.8%, to £17.83. In Asia, the price of gold for immediate delivery has risen $2.50, or 0.4%, to $653.40, while copper futures in Shanghai have risen as there is concern supply will not meet demand. As a result, BHP Billiton has gained 2.5% to £10.61, Anglo American has added 53p, or 2.6%, to £21.27 and Rio Tinto has advanced 2.5% to £29.96. London Stock Exchange Group has also added 18p or 1.7% to £10.97. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average added 277.01 points, or 1.8%, to 15,970.76 points after...
