UK market closes down

At close today the FTSE 100 Index slipped 13.4 points to 4685.5, with Sainsbury and BT leading the way.

Sainsbury finished the day on about 250.25p, after losing as much as 3.6% during early morning trading on teh back of poor results. BT Group lost 4p to 181.45p. Reuters was down 6.5p to 339.5 at close. Prudential made good gains finishing off the day 6.5p higher at 485.50p. In the US, the Dow Jones opened on a high this afternoon, trading about 20 points higher at 10,076. Citigroup is up $o.36 to $44.92 ahead of results on 14 October. Johnson & Johnson meanwhile has slipped about $0.42 to $54.90. IFAonline
