Pru takes FTSE lower

The FTSE 100 Index has declined 3.10 points, or 0.1%, to 5,926 points this morning, led by Prudential.

Prudential has fallen 3.69% to 573.50p after it reported half year profits which were in line with expectations and flagged a restructuring of its UK business with a big increase in cost savings. Falling metal prices have taken Kazakhmys down 1.11% to 1,247p and Vedanta Resources down 1.29% to 1,304p. Alliance & Leicester has declined 1.25% to 1,031p after it reported a “satisfactory” set of half year results and said it is on track to achieve each of the its strategic objectives for the year. Meanwhile, BSkyB has risen 1.09% to 556p after it posted an 8% increase in year-end revenue ...
