The Trade Unions Congress has called on the government to meet proposals put forward by the Turner Commission arguing ministers should not be swayed by individuals who do not back compulsion.

Speaking to the Amicus Annual Conference, general secretary Brendan Barber says the first Turner Commission report rightly earned praise for spelling out the problems facing pensions, however, the follow up report - due in the Autumn - will struggle to come up with a solution. He says: “As Adair Turner’s first report showed more and more employers are turning away from providing decent pensions.
