Carnival ships FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 has ended the day up 30.5 points, or 0.52%, to 5,896.7, with cruise operator Carnival posting one of the biggest gains.

Financial firm Northern Rock performed well with gains of 3.68% to £12.13, while ICAP climbed 4.13% to 523p, and Reuters jumped 3.87% to 429.75p, although the biggest gains were saved for Morrison. The supermarket climbed 7.71% to 251.5p, after it announced a return to profit for the full year, as expected, and said it is on track with its targeted profit improvements, while Carnival also gained 5.55% to £24.53. On the downside gains were limited by International Power which slipped 2.78% to 305.75p, closely followed by Drax Group which dropped 2.04% to 818p, and Lonmin fell 1.27% to £2...
