FTSE gliding on BAE's wings

In the UK the FTSE 100 Index of leading shares climbed 3.2 points, less than 0.1%, to close the day out at 5362.40.

BAE Systems paced the benchmark after the company reported earnings that beat analysts' estimates. Hilton Group fell as the shares traded without the right to the latest dividend. BAE, Europe's largest defense company, advanced 4.75p to 335p after the company said first-half net income increased more than fourfold to £317m as sales of its Airbus SAS aircraft rose, military programs were more profitable and goodwill costs fell. But Hilton, the operator of Hilton hotels outside the US, slipped 6.75p, or 2.2% to 303.75p. Buyers of the shares today aren't entitled to the first-half divide...
