Multi-manager funds set to increase market share

The multi-manager market will be in decline for the next two years, but the sector will benefit from an increased market share, suggests Skandia Investment Group (SIG).

CEO, Jamie MacLeod, says, while the fund management industry is contracting due to the economic downturn, the market share of multi-managers is increasing as investors and their advisers increasingly look to outsource fund manager selection and monitoring. Research, by Cerulli Associates, shows multi-manager funds are growing in popularity compared to single manager funds. The company predicts sales of multi-manager funds worldwide will grow at 17% per year between now and 2011 compared to a growth rate of just 9% for the investment management industry as a whole.
