Banking on the FTSE

Analyst upgrades to Lloyds TSB have helped the FTSE gain some 26 points to 6,343 this morning.

The banking group is up 9p to 599.5p as investment bank UBS sees further gains to the share price ahead. Following closely behind, Bradford & Bingley is up 7p to 470.5p, while HBOS is up16p to £11.38. Northern Rock is up 17p to £12.39. Insurers are led by Aviva, which has reported growing sales following A-Day in the UK last year. Its shares are up 8.5p to 840.5p Tesco is up 11p to 444.75p and WM Morrison is up 8.5p to 311.5p as investors continue to ponder whether the private equity play for Sainsbury’s will spread to other supermarkets.
